Ecological Study of the Farm

A local Columbia County botany expert, Conrad Vispo, has embarked upon a year-long survey of Katchkie Farm’s animals and plants.

In the forest, Trout Lilly, Toothwort, Red Trillium, Kindey-leafed Buttercup, and Marsh Marigold were all blooming along with woody plants such as Spicebush and Pin Cherry. Colt’s Foot, one of the earliest flowers, was just finishing up.

Farmscape Visit to Katchkie June 2007

Our goals were to look for birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Because of the earth-moving that was occurring during our visit, we did not spend time in the fields. We plan a return trip for that and to scout for plants. Click Here for Full Article

Future Egg Laying Troop!
Friends & Family Fun Day

We celebrated Spring at Katchkie Farm with friends and family of Great Performances. We came together to help with spring chores, walk the fields and woodlands and inaugarate the farm's first festive Bar-B-Que!

Layout and Facilities

Approximately 35 acres of fields - 20 for growing (including an area dedicated to The Sylvia Center’s projects) and 15 for grazing - 15 acres of deep old woods and three acres of rolling lawn topped off by a 20-year old ranch house that serves as the farm manager’s home and accommodates guests.  Structures, all built in late 2006 / early 2007 to Katchkie Farm specifications, include three “green” powered greenhouses, a barn, an open-sided field house for gatherings / events and The Sylvia Center.
