Green Leaf Lettuce is similar to lettuce but features frilly, tender, crisp leaves with a mild, sweet flavor. It’s great in salads, in sandwiches, as a wrap, or event slightly wilted in warm dishes. A member of the Asteraceae family, it’s in season from spring through early summer.
Storage: Green leaf lettuce can keep for one to two weeks in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator if properly stored. Gently pat the unwashed lettuce dry, then wrap in a dampened paper towel and place inside a plastic bag. Remove as much air as possible and seal, storing in the crisper drawer of your fridge. Periodically check to remove any browning leaves.
Taste: Green leaf lettuce has a mild, slightly sweet flavor that’s perfect for sandwiches as wraps — even as the wrap itself. The crisp texture is a perfect addition to any salad.
