Red Leaf Lettuce
Red Lettuce
Lactuca sativa
Red Lettuce is a colorful, delicious addition to any salad bowl.
Storage: Red lettuce can keep for one to two weeks in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator if properly stored. Gently pat the unwashed lettuce dry, then wrap in a dampened paper towel and place inside a plastic bag. Remove as much air as possible and seal, storing in the crisper drawer of your fridge. Periodically check to remove any browning leaves.
Taste: Red lettuce has a mild, slightly sweet flavor that’s perfect for sandwiches as wraps — even as the wrap itself. The crisp texture is a perfect addition to any salad.
Nutrition: Green leaf lettuce is a good source of vitamins A and K and of fiber.
